It’s that time of year again! Movember is upon us which means we will be seeing tons of questionable facial hair sprouting all over our fair city. But we can’t complain, it’s for an amazing cause. Movember is one of the world’s largest fundraisers in prostate and testicular cancer research. It is the month we dedicate to men’s health, raising awareness and men’s mental health challenges.
Throughout the month, there are tons of different events to attend to support this great cause. The official event that is held across Canada (and the world) is the Gala Parté which marks the end of Movember. This year, the Montreal Gala will be held on November 29th at the Rialto Theatre. The event celebrates all the great efforts made by participating mo bros and mo sistas throughout their respective cities. The vibe of this event is fun, light-hearted and everyone who attends is there to celebrate and have a good old time with their mos. Other than the Gala Parté, there are several smaller scale events that happen throughout November that you can get involved with as well. Have a look on the Movember Canada website and see how you can get participate in this great cause!
If you happen to be female and are not able to grow the moustache you want, there are plenty of alternatives for getting involved with Movember. Different moustache-themed products have been created to encourage women and people who simply can’t grow a stache to get involved with the cause in a fun way. Here in Montreal, Mortimer Snodgrass, a novelty boutique located in the Old Port sells Movember themed gift sets. One could purchase several different types of moustache accessories such as moustache bandaids, pins, lip balm, cookie cutters and more!
But that’s not all, Movember collaborates with different companies to create brand-name moustache-friendly products. Some of these include Holt Renfrew, Foxy, Toms Shoes and Roots Canada. So, do not fear! There is always a way to support this amazing cause whether it’s baking up some moustache cookies for football Sunday or sporting a fingerstache tattoo… they’ve pretty much thought of everything!
